FINE ART MEDIUM
“Mammoth” is a moment that I’ve spent a lifetime anticipating. This kind of ocean behaviour doesn’t happen very often as it’s very condition sensitive. It requires studying the forecasts daily and researching the behaviour of the waves location in every kind of condition. Only with the perfect alignment of swell size, tide, winds and sea floor structure can this event occur. And then there’s the light. All these variables must align during a moment of golden light. It took me several years to pinpoint this occurrence and I titled the image ‘Mammoth’ not just because it was one of the biggest of all wave collisions I’ve seen, but also because it’s a mammoth task planning and anticipating a shot like this. Once the conditions have aligned, there is then a window of extreme anticipation while contemplating the right exposure, focus and framing to create the image. A Mammoth task indeed.

“Waves are very beautiful and even symbolic, and I’m learning to see a lot more in a photograph than elegantly organised matter." The cooperation of light and water create a subject that compels me to seek something more profound and artistically inclined than that which my eyes reveal to me. When I’m immersed in nature, I see intelligent design, I see intentional energy and i see irrefutable purpose in every aspect of every detail, but above all this, I see a very clear, artistic flare woven through every living and moving thing."
